Burning Man 2024 Packing List – includes rain / storm prepared items
We’ve focused on survival essentials for the muddy apocolypse! J/K – but seriously, you will not regret these packing list items should a rainstorm pass through in Black Rock City.
Heavy Duty Waterproof Tarp
Laying tarp under your shelter (tent, yurt, hut, whatever it is) is a must! You can’t go wrong with having extra tarp around, so stock up for various uses! You want to be sure your living quarters are protected, especially if it rains. Sizes and color vary, based on your choice.

High Quality Tent Stakes
Need to hold your tent or other types of signage or structures down? Factory provided tent stakes are notorious for being small, weak, and lower quality. They may do the trick temporarily, but you can count on better stakes to prevent possible failures. Here are ground stakes that have durability, stability, and overall better performance, that stay secure during high wind storms. You can hammer these in all the way into the ground so that no one trips over little head pieces sticking out.

Tall 13-Gallon Trash Bags
Can be used traditionally to fill throw your trash away – (remember that Burning Man is a Leave No Trace event!), but can come in handy if you need to to start wearing them as cover ups for your shoes/legs to keep slightly cleaner from wet mud. These larger sized trash bags can also be used to separate clean or dusty clothes. *PRO TIP* – layer socks over the trash bag for walking in playa mud, should it be wet.

Portable Camping Toilet
In case of emergency and unable to go to the nearest porta potty, be prepared with your very own portable camping toilet. You may consider other styles, but there should be less issues if you have your own at your convenience. Throw a tall trash bag over and please cover up the lid!

Large Double Umbrella
Rain or shine – the umbrella can be used to shield you from UV or waterdrops. If you’re looking to roam the playa, take cover from a large or extra large size umbrella. Get dual use from the double umbrella.
